Once shy of new experiences, Alex has grown into an empowered young woman who is embracing every opportunity that comes her way. Her days are now a wonderful balance of learning, working, and giving back—all of which are building her confidence, sharpening her skills, and lighting up her world.
One of Alex’s proudest achievements is her volunteer role at Dove Hospice, a local charity shop in Goole. Every week, she rolls up her sleeves to help label and present donations for sale. Whether making sure items are priced correctly or creating attractive displays, Alex takes great pride in her work—knowing that her contribution helps raise money for such an important cause. Her natural attention to detail and cheerful attitude have made her a valued part of the Dove team.
But that’s not all. Alex is also attending sixth form at St Anne’s College working towards her Duke of Edinburgh Award —a subject she is passionate about and thriving in. And as if that wasn’t enough, she’s also taken on a role working in the college café every Friday. From preparing food and serving customers to handling tasks behind the scenes, Alex is learning valuable skills that will support her in both everyday life and future employment.
Each of these opportunities is helping Alex expand her horizons—not just practically, but socially, too. Through her experiences, she’s meeting new people, growing in self-assurance, and building the kind of life that reflects her strengths, interests, and aspirations. Alex is also really looking forward to being part of the Genhawk blog page as an April feature.
