If there’s a fair, festival or community celebration taking place, there is a very good chance you will find us there!
This summer has given us so many opportunities to get out and about, spend time together and enjoy some of the brilliant events taking place across our local area. From the Old Goole Gala and Vintage in the Park to the Freedom Festival at West Park, the season has been filled with music, dancing, sunshine, friendly faces and new experiences.
We also welcomed people through our own doors for the Genhawk Open Day, bringing service users, families, friends, colleagues and members of the wider community together for a celebration of everything that makes Goldcrest and Holland House so special.
While these occasions are great fun, they are also an important part of the support we provide. Taking part in community life can help neurodiverse adults build confidence, develop social and practical skills, explore new surroundings and experience a genuine sense of belonging.
We loved returning to the Old Goole Gala to celebrate another year of this much-loved local event. Galas and fairs bring together people of all ages and backgrounds, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere in which everyone can share the experience.
The sunshine arrived at just the right time for Vintage in the Park, giving us another fantastic opportunity to spend time outdoors and enjoy something a little different.
We also enjoyed a great afternoon at the Freedom Festival at West Park. Festivals offer a chance to be part of something bigger: a shared celebration taking place in a familiar community space.
One of the highlights of the summer was our Genhawk Open Day. A huge thank you goes to everyone who attended and helped to make the day such a warm and positive occasion.
It was lovely to bring everyone together and emphasise that our doors are open. The day gave families, friends and members of the community an opportunity to learn more about Genhawk, meet the people who make it what it is and share in the welcoming atmosphere we work hard to create every day.
At Genhawk, we believe support should help people live full, active and connected lives. Being part of the local community plays an important role in achieving that.
Community participation can provide opportunities to:
- Build confidence in social settings and public spaces
- Make choices and communicate individual preferences
- Experience unfamiliar activities in a supported way
- Develop practical life skills naturally
- Discover new interests and sources of enjoyment
- Form friendships and strengthen existing relationships
- Feel recognised, included and valued within the local area
There is also a great deal of joy in simply taking part. Not every experience needs to be measured by a formal outcome. Dancing with friends, enjoying music in the sunshine or sharing an afternoon at a local festival can be meaningful in its own right.
Summer may be coming to an end, but our commitment to getting involved certainly is not. We look forward to many more fairs, festivals, open days and community adventures together.
